Lake Tyrrell

This large lake in The Mallee formed when one arm of Lake Bungunnia retreated. This adds to the evidence that after the draining of the lake dry times prevailed. The Tyrrell Beds, the saline deposits rich in gypsum lie on the Blanchetown Clay. The time of their formation coincided with that at which the polar ice had reached a new high volume.
