Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Hillsborough Volcano 590 m. 25 km northwest of Mackay, Queensland

Cape Hillsborough on the coast, in the Cape Hillsborough National Park, and Mt Jukes further inland, are the 2 main exposed volcanoes in this extinct volcanic province. On the coast boulders of rhyolite are found scattered on the foreshore and headlands. The Yuibera people are the traditional owners of this area. Mt Jukes is a granite plug 547 m high and 1 km in diameter, and Mt Blackwood (590 m) are in the Pioneer Peaks National Park.

Volcanic activity occurred 33.2 million years ago.
