Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Cranebrook Terrace

This site is in the quarries near the Nepean River near Penrith, New South Wales. The original discovery at this site was a pebble chopper at the base of the gravels. Pumping of the site dropped the water table enough to allow investigation and bog-preserved logs were found. They were originally dated to 30,000 years ago. Later it was found that the logs had been contaminated by younger carbon in the ground water. The site has since been dated to between 43,000 and 47,000 years ago.
